Core Issues
Sovereignty, Aboriginal & Treaty Rights
Problem: Continued erosion by federal governments our treaty rights and transfer of responsibilities to the provinces.
My perspective: Economic Sovereignty is a key pillar for self government. We need to grow income to enable the Nation the ability to spend and save more and increase employment opportunities for members.
Why It Matters: Advice and guidance from Elders and knowledge keepers will inform the structural foundation and guiding values to enable TCFN to continue to pursue sovereignty and First Nation jurisdiction.
Government Transparency & Accountability
Problem: Violation of finance administration law and finance policy including authority spending levels.
Proposed Solutions: Maintain transparent, accountable financial systems that prevent abuse, corruption, and instability by clearly reporting spending and decisions. Follow the Financial Administration Law and TCFN Finance Policy, share financial reports, approve budgets on time, and ensure audits meet required standards. Implement spending and contracting rules, establish a Finance Committee, publish decision summaries, and invite feedback.
Why It Matters: People want fairness and accountability and I am committed to ensuring full transparency and integrity in the process.
Local Economy & Jobs
Problem: The costs are increasing and people are unable to maintain a quality of life.
Proposed Solution: Support youth and young adults upgrade their skills, help them find jobs.
Why It Matters: The Youth’s voices need to be a focused on as this segment of the population is the largest and growing fast. They are the future leaders and we need to ensure we support and educate their path.
Community Safety - Gangs & Drugs
Problem: Increasing drug and gang activity and damaging of residential units, public property.
Reforms I Will Support: Pursue justice initiatives including implementing the approved Community Safety Plan in a timely manner.
Why It Matters: I want community members to feel safe and live and work in a peaceful place.
Education
Community Need: Parent and student satisfaction on the quality of education.
Proposed Programs: Programming will be guided by community feedback and proven practices.
Why It Matters: Meaningful participation from parents, teachers and students creates ownership and guides the direction of the school.
Housing
Problem: Unfair allocation of new housing and renovations.
Proposed Solutions: Develop capacity in order to assess needs and costs. Set clear renovation and repair priorities and criteria, Confirm funding before spending funds. Work with urban members to acquire homes.
Why It Matters: The right to shelter is our treaty right, but that right has been eroded over time.
Sports, Recreation & Culture
Problem: We need capacity, better programming implementation and supports.
Proposed Solutions: Improve access to mental health & addiction supports. Expand arts, culture, and sports and extracurricular supports. Strengthen supports for family, Implement Community Safety Plan including addressing gang and drug issues.
Why It Matters: Youth Wellbeing and Community Safety are key to providing opportunities in the future for our youth.
My Proposed Timeline
The proposed timeline outlines when reviews, plans, and progress updates would take place. It includes financial and community input processes within the first 90 days, followed by business, employment, and housing milestones over subsequent months.
Some dates depend on funding, approvals, assessments, or partner commitments. The plan also provides for regular updates on completed work, outstanding actions, and reasons for delays.
